Party Drinks Calculator: How Much to Buy

Enter your guest count and how long the party runs. The calculator uses a common planning rule of thumb (two drinks per drinking guest in the first hour, one per hour after that) and turns it into bottles, litres and kilos. Every assumption can be changed.

Rule of thumb, not a guarantee: adjust it to your crowd.

Serve alcohol only to guests of legal drinking age, never pressure anyone to drink, keep food and free water out all night and make sure everyone has a safe way home.

Runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to a server.

How it works

  1. Enter the number of guests, the party length and roughly how many guests drink alcohol.
  2. Adjust drinks per hour if your crowd drinks more or less than the default.
  3. Split the alcoholic drinks between beer, wine and mixed drinks.
  4. Open the assumptions to change serving sizes, bottle size, water or ice per guest.
  5. Copy the shopping list and remember to plan food and non-alcoholic options as well.

FAQ

How many drinks per person should I plan for a party?

A common rule of thumb is two drinks per drinking guest in the first hour and one per hour after that. Adjust it to your crowd and the type of event.

How many glasses of wine are in a bottle?

A 750 ml bottle gives five glasses of 150 ml. If you pour smaller glasses, change the serving size in the assumptions.

How much ice do I need for a party?

The calculator starts with 0.5 kg per guest, which covers chilling and drinks for most house parties. Plan more on hot days or if you need to chill bottles in ice.

Does the calculator include food?

No, it covers drinks, water, ice and cups only. Always serve food alongside alcohol and keep free water available all night.
